Trojan War - Lukka warriors

As part of clearing the paint table I managed to force myself to get these 3 additional units of Lukka warriors completed. Definitely not my best work and a bit rushed. At least they are done. All of the figures are from Museum miniatures.

Now I can start some prep on my new project.

Russian buildings and Trojans

I picked up another set of Pegasus buildings for the RCW collection. These are designated as farm cottages. They are slightly smaller than the other set. I like that the slightly larger of the two has a lean-to added.

A pretty quick and simple paint scheme, helps them blend in to the rest of the collection. This brings me up to 7 houses, a Railway halt and a couple of outbuildings. I could do with one larger building to act as a focal point  probably try and pick up a Dacha or church in the near future.

For the Trojan War collection I added a couple of units of slingers for my Trojans. Like the rest these are from Museum miniatures.

I've also added a page for the collection showing both armies as they currently are. I only have a few heroes and 5 units to complete.

Trojan War - Myrmidons

Another 3 units for the Achaens. this time it is some of the Myrmidons that were led by Achilleus. The figures are all from Museum miniatures. I deliberately went for a dark leather armour and darker clothing to easily distinguish them from the rest of the Achaen force.

I've now got some Lukka warriors prepped for undercoating as the Trojans need some additional troops as they are in danger of being heavily putnumbered.

A random mix

I currently find myself jumping in between projects at the moment. I've been completing a couple of blood bowl teams for our upcoming tournament https://orcidasbb.blogspot.com/2023/05/caroburg-chargers.html as well as a few odds and ends.

First up is another unit of Trojan infantry, inspired by our recent games. I now have some slingers and Myrmidons prepped and ready for painting.

Next up is a HMG team for my Bolsheviks. I picked these up ready painted, they just required a few touch ups and an actual HMG which was missing. Luckily I had a spare one. These will help add a little more firepower to the Bolsheviks while I await an additional artillery piece. Not to be outdone though, I added a few more figures to the 'Whites'. There is another HMG team, this time using some spare WW1 Brits. Painted up to look suitably Russian. It does help that Britain supplied extensive stocks of weapons and uniforms to the 'White' cause. There are also 5 spare infantry, I've ordered the rest from Minifigs to round out the unit. These look a mix of Copplestone and Brigade miniatures. These have simply been painted up to represent a generic 'White' infantry company.

Lastly -  Thrud the Barbarian. He has been partly painted for a number of years so I decided to quickly complete him and add him to one of my Dragon Rampant armies.

Time to get back to the Trojan War figures.

A clash of Bronze

Being at a loose end at the club this week, myself and Mitch decided to give the Basic Impetus rules a run out using my Trojan War collection. This will likely get me inspired to get the rest of them painted up. I went with 2 pretty similar forces, A mix of heavy and light infantry supported by some skirmishers. I donated the generals by adding a hero to one of the units. So Diomedes would be facing off against Paris.

We did manage to get through 2 games in the night. Added chariots and archers for the second game. Each side claimed a victory. The rules themselves are simple and fun. They can also be quite brutal. We both enjoyed them and found by the second game we were able to easily work out the combats and cohesion tests. No game report but a few pics from the game. I didn't take many as I was too busy enjoying the games.

Battle lines close

Trojans await the Achaians

Heavy infantry prepare to clash

Achaian centre collapses with the loss of Diomedes

Brown chips represent disorder

Trojan right flank collapses

So these rules will definitely be getting another run out in the future.

Back to the Trojan War

After adding to my RCW collection, it was time to get back to the Trojan War as I still have a fair few figures to paint up. So I decided to paint up another unit of Achaen spearmen. They've sat patiently waiting,  undercoated.

I've prepped two more units of these. They are the last of the heavy infantry for the Achaens. In the meantime I have a couple of units of Trojans to finish off before I can make a start on the Lukka and Myrmidons. Should keep me busy for a while.

I have picked up the Basic Impetus rules. Had a quick flick through and seem quite interesting. Hopefully give them a try out with collection in the coming weeks.

More Achaens

As my bases arrived from Minibits I finally got these guys based up. 3 more units of Achaen light spearmen / javelins.

These will bring me up to 6 units of these. Think I'm getting close to having enough troops to get a game in. Just need to decide on some rules. I can then look to getting the Myrmidons and Lukka done.

Achaen archers and some Heroes

As I continue to make progress on this project I decided to add some missile troops to the Achaens in the form of two units of archers. The observant ones will notice a missing figure on one of the bases. He sadly became a casualty of war, snapping at the ankles as I removed him from the painting stick.

For heroes I completed another 2 figures from the hero pack from Museum miniatures, I believe these are to represent Achilles and Diomedes. I also completed the model of Aeneas, adding a spare bannerman to his base. I will actually use the model as Sarpedon to lead the Lukka contingent when I get them painted.

I do have another 3 units of Achaens nearing completion but I've unfortunately ran out of bases. While I await my order I may work on either some cavalry for my White Russians or a new Blood bowl team.

Another batch of Achaens

These are the last of the figures I managed to get painted at the weekend. They were just waiting for their bases to be complete. It is another unit of heavy spearmen and 2 units of slingers for the Achaens. Like the rest of the collection these are all from Museum miniatures.

Once again I kept with the black and white colour scheme for the shields. Visually quite striking and helps differentiate the Achaens from the Trojans. Hopefully I get a few more units painted this weekend.

More Achaens and a bit of a review

Well I seemed to have had a productive few days on the painting front with a number of new units for the Achaens. First up is 3 units of light spearmen / javelinmen. Nice and easy to paint up as lots of flesh. I also added 2 Heroes from the range Odysseus and Greater Aias or Ajax. These 2 are very nice sculpts and were a joy to paint up.

I also managed to get another unit of heavy spearmen done along with a few more slingers, but those guys are still needing their bases completed. Should hopefully be done by tomorrow. It was also a chance to have a look at the completed figures done for both sides. I must be about 60-70% of my way through the current lead pile for this project.

I have also had some new thoughts about basing the heroes, especially someone like Priam, so have picked up a few extra packs to add some command figures to his base. The spare officers can then be used as additional minor heroes. There are plenty of them in the Iliad to be slain by the major champions.

More Trojans

As mentioned in yesterday's post I had a couple of units of Trojan warriors that needed their bases finished. Well I managed to get them done today. So here they are 2 units of Trojan auxiliaries.  Like the rest of the figures in the collection, these are all from Museum miniatures.

Quite happy with how these turned out so another unit is part of the latest order to Museum miniatures, along with a few champions and Achaen spearmen. I also took the opportunity to prep plenty of figures for painting this weekend. They are mainly Achaens, a mix of Spearmen, auxiliaries and skirmishers. Should keep me busy for a while.

More Achaens and a couple of extras

Progress has continued with the Trojan War project as I look to both bring the Achaens up to strength and finish off the Trojans. So the first additions are another unit of Achaen spearman supported by a couple of groups of skirmishers with slings.

Achaen shieldwall

Once again I went with the black and white goat skinned shields, though slightly more white than the last unit. I do have another unit of spearmen ready for undercoating, along with some archers and another group of slingers.

For the Trojans I finally completed the 2nd chariot to finish the unit. I also completed a second hero, this time Paris / Alexandros to lead a second contingent.

I should also have another couple of Trojan light spearmen / javelinmen completed once their bases are finished. I had a quick look through the unpainted pile to see what I have left to do.

Trojans

4 Heroes

2 units of Lukka warriors

2 units of skirmishers with slings

Achaens

5 Heroes

2 units of spearmen

3 units of Myrmidons

6 units of light spearmen

2 units of archers

2 units of skirmishers with slings

These will keep me busy for a couple of months. I do think I need to pick up a few more troops, especially a command group for each side to denote lesser heroes, a couple more light spears for the Trojans and heavy spears for the Achaens. I can then look into getting some buildings for the outskirts of Troy and even some ramparts for the Achaen camp. Of course there is also a few more chariots for both sides.
