Star Wars Stage 2

I finally managed to kick off the 2nd stage of my Star Wars project. The main aim is to add more Imperials as they are rather heavily outnumbered by my Rebels. So first up was a dozen extra Stormtroopers. I picked these up second hand from Hinds figures. They didn't take much to paint up.

Next to lead my Imperials I added Darth Vader from the Legion boxed set. The ultimate bad guy. All that black makes him rather quick to pick up. The highlights don't show up too well in the picture.

I've already have the 14 Stormtroopers from the Legion boxed set undercoated. As I had also picked up 4 more Rebel Commandos, I decided to add them to the collection. These were the first completed figures of 2021.

These will allow me to field 2 groups of Commandos for playing Legion. In the meantime I've got some FPW artillery to complete.

Star Wars Phase 1 complete

As the title says, phase 1 of my Star Wars project is complete. I.e. enough figures and terrain to get a game with. I finally managed to complete the last of my unpainted figures.

First up is an AT-ST, this is not from the Legion game, but one from Wizards of the Coast. The scale may not be quite right, but I picked this up for £10, significantly cheaper than the Fantasy flight model. The first photo has a Stormtrooper for scale.

The next model is for the Rebels, a third AT-RT. I've deliberatly given each of these a different paint scheme. My reason being as these are old vehicles from the Clone Wars that the Rebels have scavenged.

I also completed another 3d printed terrain piece. To tie it in with the rest of the collection I went with a grey colour scheme.

So with Phase 1 complete I got all the toys out of storage for a quick photo. Not bad for 3 months work.

For Phase 2 I will be looking to add a few more figures. In particular I want some more Stormtroopers and probably Darth Vader. I would also like a few more creatures and alien bounty hunters; then onto more terrain with a few extra buildings and battlefield clutter. In the meantime back to the Franco Prussian war project.

Star Wars odds and sods

A quick post with a some more progress on my Star Wars project as a few more complered models are added to the collection. First up is 2 Rebel commandos. I envisage using these as a stand alone sniper team. I even managed to do some camo on their cloaks. Pretty basic but I'm happy enough with them.

Next up is a landing platform and some refurbished battlefield clutter. The platform is a card printed model. I decided to just use the platform, added to some foamboard then a MDF base. Perfect for a backwater/Outer Rim space station. The clutter are just some old pieces I had lying around from a 40K project.  Just required some re-basing.

As mentioned in the last post, I need to bulk out my Imperial forces. So here are 7 Imperial Scouts. Lovely poses but I must admit to not enjoying painting them. Also as the rebels got a photo shoot, I did one for the Imperials.

I'm now getting to the last few figures for this project. Will need to pick up some more as I want to round out both forces. There are also a few character figures I want. Also I fancy some of the more unusual aliens for some small scale action using Rogue Stars.

More Star Wars random stuff

As I awaited the next batch of figures to arrive, I decided to quickly paint up the random figures that I had left. First up is 2 proxy Mandalorians.  These are both metal figures from Diehard miniatures. They are very nice, though unsure on the powerfist for Star wars.

Next was an Imperial officer from the Assault board game. He is quite thin in comparison to the legion figures. He is though rather quick and easy to paint.

And just so the rebels didn't feel left out I added an AT-RT. At first I was quite daunted painting this up, but needn't have been. I just worked up from field drab, just adding small amounts of bone colour to each layer. The trooper just followed the same colour schemes as the foot sloggers.

As the collection of figures grows my attention is turning towards some scenery. I have ordered a couple of resin pieces to start me off. I also had a look on Etsy and there are some great 3D printed stuff, shame most were US based and the postage would cost more than the models. I did though nick a few ideas for some sheds for my backwater smugglers spaceport. They were quick builds out of foamcard and some random leftover plastic pieces. A quick paint up and they will suffice.

These are very rough models, but they will add some cover to games.

Searching through the unpainted figures, I can add 7 Imperial scouts, 12 Fleet troopers, 12 Rebel infantry, Jyn Erso and Han Solo. On order I have 3 resin variant Rebel troopers as well as Jabba the Hut.

More Star Wars Legion

As I slowly plod on with my Franco Prussian war project, I couldn't help but add a few more figures to my Star Wars collection. First up is 2 more 74-z speeder bikes. I really like these models. Will need to add some Scout troopers to support them.

I can just seem these zooming past poor rebel foot sloggers. I also added 2 more Stormtroopers to the collection. These are both from the Imperial Assault game. They are slightly smaller than the Legion figures. The last photo gives a size comparison.

With all these Imperial troops it was time to add a few more rebels. This is the first of my Rebel squads which I can add to the painted troopers I picked up. I deliberatly went for a mix of browns and greys. I wanted them to look rough and ready yet still uniformed.

The 2 squads look close enough to keep to the theme I have in my head. I do have an AT-RT nearing completion to add to them. I've also picked up Jyn Erso and some fleet troopers. Can't wait for them to arrive to get them painted.

Now for rules I have 2 ideas. The first is to adapt the old Rogue Trader rules, which should be fine for the size of games I am planning. Secondly their is the free FUBAR rules. These look simple and fun.

The Emperor's Bodyguard

These are the last 4 figures from the EBay bundle that I picked up. They were already painted black for some reason and I always find painting red over black slightly problematic. However I'm pretty pleased with how these turned out.

Now I just need a suitable dignitary for them to protect. I'll probably look to pick up an Imperial Commander at some point.

The other figure I completed was a Trandoshan mercenary. This figure is from the Imperial Assault game. As he is slightly smaller I've transferred him to a spare legion base.

I may use him as a simple mercenary or even as the bounty hunter Bossk.

Stormtroopers

Being a big fan of Star wars it was only a matter of time before I picked up some figures for a bit of gaming. I haven't settle on any particular rule set. To start with I picked up a box of Stormtroopers for Star Wars Legion. These are very nice figures. So much so I've already added an expansion pack and picked up a few extras off EBay.

So here they are 7 of the Emperors finest.

Really enjoyed painting these despite the white. I simply started with a black undercoat.  Each model was given a drybrush of firstly grey, then 2 successive drybrush coats of white. I then completed them with a wet brush again of white on the larger areas. The weapons were kept black, highlighted with dark grey.
