Border Reiver 2013

Today I attended the Border Reiver show held at the Gateshead International Stadium. It was my first attendance at the new venue and its much more spacious that the Arena, however it did get hot, though thankfully not as bad as it was last year according to others from the club.

The club put on a demonstration game for day 2 of the Battle of Gettysburg. We were using 15mm figures from my own collection as well as those from George and Neal. There was a mix of manufacturers on display from Old Glory, Warrior, Essex, Peter Pig, battle honours and Mini figs. Harry did all of the terrain boards while Neal and myself provided most of the fencing and buildings, We were going to use the Fire and Fury rules, but in the end decided to just move the figures to there position as they did historically to try and demonstrate how the battle unfolded on the day.

I did manage to take a number of photographs of the game. I was rather pleased with how it turned out and we did get quite a bit of passing traffic and people stopping for a chat which is always nice.

With running the game I didn't get much of a chance to visit the other games. I was was impressed with the Falkirk Wargmaes display for  the AWI, sorry forgot the camera here. There were a couple of 40K games on display, full of some excellent figures including Titans. The game that really caugh my breath was Blood Bowl. The Custom built stadium was awesome (sorry guys I forgot which club you were) the chaps were very friendly talking about the game and the dstadium and all the fans. Also liked the custom built Treeman for the Halfling team.

Lastly I have to mention the Wings of War/Glory participation game that was run by Neal from the club. Seems a lot of fun was had and the table was constantly busy throughout the day. Neal reckoned that thery used 35 different planes on the day. He is already talking of improvements for the next show.

For purchases I was very restrained this year, keeping to what i had made a list for. I did pick up some figures from Andy, 15mm Austrian napoleonics, some Austrian Landwher from Colonel Bill as well as assorted MDF bases and paints. There was one bargain on the Bring and buy which tempted me. A full brigade of napoleonic French nicely painted for £50.00, when I returned with the money they had already gone.

Was the show worth it, yes definatly and I will try and make it next year.

On a losing streak

After my victorious run the week before, I have found myself suffering two defeats on the bounce. Then tonight my daughter challenged me to a wings of war game, obviously she was wanting to boost her kill count. I could only manage the one game as my pride could take no more as she inflicted 20 points of damage and blew me from the sky. The shame.....

On a more positive note I have gotten quite a bit of painting done this week. A unit of Chasseurs a Cheval to add to my cavalry division and the last 2 infantry regiments for the French III corps. I'll post pics over the weekend when the basing is done. I've got one more unit of dragoons to complete but won't get the figures off Dave until  Wednesday.. Dave has done some sterling work on the FPW Prussians here. 

Don't know if any one else notice but blogger seems to have been playing up on the photos. I did a post for the ECW game and the photos came out small, I re sized them but once publish I couldn't enlarge them. So today I have had to re input all the photos again which seems to have worked.

Back from Holiday

Well just got back from 11 days in the sun. Nicely refreshed and ready to get going again on the numerous unfinished projects that I have on the go. I did manage to sneak away a couple of planes for Wings of War in the cases. Even got in 2 games with my daughter, using the wife's emery board as a range ruler. The result 2-0 to the girl. Going to have to stop taking it easy on her, though she does have a knack of pulling off some unexpected moves.

Here she is with me once again in her sights. 2 damage cards resulted in 8 points of damage and set me on fire. Now how jammy is that!

Wings of War

This week at the club we put on a wings of war game. Approx 5 players a side. Now its been a while since we've played these rules and what fun was had by all. More planes were actually lost through collisions than were actually shot down. I also took along my daughter as in the past she quite likes these rules. She generally just flies around in a circle, but if you come too close she normally shoots you down. She had a kill streak of 6 going into this game. On realising that she was playing, a number of club members began tearfully reminiscing of how they each had been shot down by this little terror of the skies. Wish I'd had a camera as she roughly handled Robbo's plane before he promptly crashed into myself. Next it was Bayley who faced her wrath. Initially he thought he had escaped by the kin of his teeth when her guns jammed only to crash his plane on landing.Kill streak to 8. Eventually though she was badly shot up and ended up crashing her own plan (much to the relief of a number of grown men). As for my own game, well I was taken out of the sky by robbo before trading kills with Mick.
