Libyans and Elves

So in between work and a new puppy, I still managed to get a few things painted up. Firstly was another unit of Libyan javelin men. This brings me up to 4 units and are the last of my Carthaginian figures. These are a mix of Forged in battle and Essex miniatures.

The other figures completed were 4 more of the Oathmark Elven bowmen. These have been sat half done for a number of months so it didn't take much effort to finish. This finally roundouts my Elven force for Warhost.

So now I find myself at a bit of a loose end on what to paint. I do have a few 28mm Gladiators to finish, inspired by the free sprue from Wargames illustrated. I also have a few Spanish to paint up for the Punic Wars, enough for about 4 units, but that is it. So time to have a think on a new project to keep me busy for the rest of the year.

Another mixed bag

Another mixed bag of figures completed. I even had the opportunity to do some painting with the new glasses. They will take a little getting used to. So first up is some cavalry for the Warhost Elven force. Like the rest of the figures they are all from Oathmark. Nice and easy to put together and paint.

Sticking with Warhost, I also took the opportunity to re-furbish some of my Orcs. A quick and easy way to get a force ready.

After these it was back to the Punic wars and a unit of Princeps for the 4th legion. These are lovely figures from Museum miniatures. I just need to get the Hastati done to complete the legion. Once again sticking with a mix of shield colours.

This Thursday should see the first battle of our Franco Prussian campaign. It will see Robbo with the French III Corps defending some heights against Mitch and the Prussian VI Corps.

Bits and pieces part 3

These are the last of the figures I managed to get painted up over the extended weekend. For the Punic Wars I added a unit of Velites for the Romans and some Spanish light cavalry. The Velites are from Museum miniatures and the Spanish are 3d prints provided by Mitch.

I also added another 10 Elves from Oathmark, 1 is a minor conversion to act as a low level leader for now, 8 are spearmen and 1 was a test figure for a unit of archers.

It's been a very productive few days with 80 figures cleared off the painting table. I'm now working on some Oathmark Elven cavalry before starting on the last of my Romans.

Bits and pieces

As my mojo for painting is slowly returning, I've found it best to keep the painting queue as varied as possible. Seems to be helping so far. First up was some bits and pieces for the Punic Wars, some Carthaginian cavalry and a single base of Triari for my 4th Roman legion, this will be combined with the base from the 3rd legion to create a unit for Midgard. The Romans are from Museum miniatures and the Carthaginians are from Forged in battle.

I really struggled with the shields on the cavalry. When the new glasses arrive I will try again. The next batch of figures were some Oathmark Dwarves for my Warhost force. Only another 5 figures to do on these before deciding if I want to expand the force further.

While rummaging in the pile of unpainted shame I came across a box of the Oathmark Elven warriors. I knew I had painted a few up years ago, so assumed they had come from this box, guess I was wrong as it was a full unopened box of 30 figures. I must have picked up a few sprues first. So I guess I'll be adding an Elven force to the Warhost collection. I even dug out the 8 I had painted previously, touched up the paintwork and freshened up the bases.

At the club we gave the Midgard rules another run out using my Punic War figures, just a few pictures as not much of a report as we concentrated on learning the rules.

The game is in balance. After a rather ropey start by the Romans, they have slowly ground their way back into the battle, eventually dispatching the troublesome elephants, which had been causing havoc amongst the allied Italian infantry. Next week I should see my 2 legions engage the main Carthaginian and Gallic infanty. Should be fun

LOTR Elves

As I've been awaiting an order of MDF bases for my FPW figures, I decided on a little divergence to keep me painting. These Elves have been built and undercoated for a while. So it was time to get them painted.

First up was 3 extra heavy cavalry. These have been converted from Conquest Normans. The armour is a bit too heavy, but I needed them until Oathmark produce some.

With Glorfindel to lead them I've enough for 2 companies of heavy cavalry and a light company for my big battles Dragon Rampant.

The other figures I painted were a unit of Elven swordsmen. These are the plastic Oathmark figures and they are rather nice. Need to get the rest of the box finished.

These will be the 1st company for my 3rd battalion of Elves.

On the painting table there are a few more figures for Judge Dredd, plenty of FPW figures and the start of a new project, but more of that in a later post.

Elven army takes shape

After testing my home brewed rule adaptions for fighting larger battles in Middle Earth, it was time to bring the Elves up to atleast fighting strength. So far I've had to rely on John providing his Gondorians to put on decent sized games.

So first up is the last 2 companies to make up what has been affectionately named the 'Blue' command by club members. These are designated as heavy infantry.  I did use some spares from Oathmark to make standard bearer (still needs a standard added) and an extra spearman from a broken figure.

Next up was a company to add to the'Green' command. These were a mix of armoured and unarmored figures from the GW Galadhirim range. I do have enough figures left over to make up an archer company.

To lead the mounted component of the army I've used the Glorfindel model from GW. Not my favourite, but he does at least look heroic.

To further expand the force I can add 5 more infantry companies using some Oathmark figures. I also have another company of riders using Conquest Normans. I'm also repurposing some GW Reaver knight which can help bulk up the mounted arm until Oathmark produce some Elven cavalry.

Now I feel the need to switch periods for awhile as I need to start on some 28mm WW2 Germans.
