The next batch was some Republican Romans from Museum miniatures, pretty serviceable figures, need to paint up a couple of extra velites to complete another base. I've also ordered some test figures from Cromarty forge to get the missing base of Triari as I only have the Hastati and Princeps.
It was while doing these I remembered the new Romans I picked up last year. The new Z sculpts from Museum Miniatures. Now the idea of a new project is forming, The Punic wars. Initially I want to concentrate on the Italian Peninsula, some Carthaginians, Gauls, Italians, Numidians, Spanish and Elephants. I've already dug around the lead pile and unearthed enough figures for 2 bases of Italian heavy infantry and a base of medium infantry.
So the new project is born and the first troops are completed. 2 bases of Hastati and Princeps completed. I've gone for black shield for the first new legion. Lovely figures and very quick and easy to paint up.
My idea for a legion will be 2 bases each of Hastati, Princeps and Velites, supported by a single base of Triari and cavalry. The Triari and Velites are already painted, just need their bases finished. The old Roman figures I have can represent an allied legion which will have the extra base of cavalry.
Nice stuff Scotty - when I read the title, I thought you were heading down the "Epic" trail with your new project comment!
ReplyDeleteCheers Keith, has a look at the Epic stuff, didn't fancy painting trips of infantry again. May use some of the Gallic cavalry
DeleteBeautiful looking collection!

DeleteGood to see Neil. I'm doing the same thing with my old figures.
ReplyDeleteCheers OB, always good to bring old figures backto life
DeleteMidgard by all accounts is very good. I have the rules but haven't played yet. 😁
ReplyDeleteI hear good reports about it, so looking to give them a try
DeleteGreat looking figures and I'm glad you are not repainting them, they look grand they way they are, nice that they will be back on the table again.
ReplyDeleteCheers Donnie, can't wait to get them on the table
DeleteRebasing makes an old army new! Looking forward to seeing your Punic Wars project take flight. Still planning to give Basic Impetvs a try?
ReplyDeleteCheers Jonathan, used Basic Impetus a few times and like how they handle the game
DeleteGood to see the old miniatures getting a new lease on life with your project.
ReplyDeleteCheers Peter
DeleteEven our minis sometimes need TLC. Looking forward to how the project progresses.
ReplyDeleteCheers Richard
DeleteWow a new project all ready up and running 👍
ReplyDeleteCheers Matt, needed to focus on something new
DeleteSome great looking figures Neil. I used to have loads of these before I stupidly sold them all!
ReplyDeleteCheers Ray, glad I kept a hold of these
DeleteThat looks a lot like my beginnings, too. The first miniatures I painted were 15mm Punic Wars Republican Romans. Glad to see those old veterans are getting some use!
ReplyDeleteCheers Mike, looking forward to getting them on the table again
