FPW French Hussars

In a slight change of infantry I decided to paint up some Hussars. I have 2 regiments that will from part of a cavalry Division for XII corps. I think I will also add a Dragoon regiment.

At the start of the war only 2 regiments of Hussars were equipped  in the new 1870 uniforms, the 1st and 8th. These figures will represent the 1st regiment. All the figures are from Outpost.

Next on the painting table is the 8th Hussars then the last Marine regiment for Vassiognes  Division.

FPW French Marines III

After struggling to get start this year on painting I've finally been able to get this regiment finished. They've  been languishing on the painting table for a couple of months now.

These guys are the 3rd Marine regiment that formed part of Vassiognes division in XII corps. The figures are all from Outpost.

I also managed to complete another officer to lead my two regiments of Hussars when I finally get them painted. There are also another 2 figures for use as low on ammo markers. Now to finish the 4th regiment.

First Game of the Year

After a three week break the club finally reconvened on Thursday. We had organised a Epic scale X Wing game, 200 points per player. However Robbo mis-understood and only brought 100 points. His defence was he thought it was 200 points per side not player. This meant he hadn't brought the Tantive, just 3 X-wings. Luckily Tom stepped up and loaned him the Millenium Falcon and a K-Wing to bring him up to 200 points. The game saw 2 Imperial Players in a straight up fight against 1 Rebel and 1 scum faction (me).

For the Imperials Tom brought the Imperial Raider and backed it up with 2 Tie Interceptors from the Emperors squadron. Neil brought an Imperial Shuttle, Decimator and the Assault carrier with 4 Tie fighters (yikes)

Robbos Rebels include the 3 X-wings led by Wedge  with the Falcon and a heavily armed K-wing. For the Scum i brought an IG2000, a Firespray, 1 y-wing, a khirax fighter and 2 headhunters. We seemed to be seriously under-gunned.

The scum
Unfortunately I didn't take too many pictures as I was having too much fun. I was able to isolate the Decimator and with 2 turns of firing managed to destroy it. The Tie fighters from the Assault carrier had flown off to attack my Y-wing and left the Decimator to its fate.

Robbo meanwhile had his hands full with the Raider and was lucky to see Wedge survive a heavy salvo. The Raider was also armed with and Ion cannon which Tom used to great effect. Ionising 2 X-wings and then being able to destroy them the following turn by ramming them.

After taking out a tie fighter and one of the Interceptors time caught up with us and a draw was called. Though the Raider was damaged the assault carrier was un-hit. Luckily for me I had only lost a few shields on my ships. Hopefully next time Robbo remembers the Raider and then we can field the second Assault carrier that we have. Starting to think we have too many ships.

Next week we will be giving the Frostgrave rules another run out

2015 review and future plans

Well as is the norm, it's  time for a review of progress made in 2015. So what did I manage to achieve. Well after a good start on the painting from I seemed to hit a block mid year before I got my mojo back with needing to complete figures for a large Franco prussian game.

My main achievement I feel is finally completing my Bavarian Corps for the FPW. I even added some extra French infantry and a Prussian cavalry division. I would like to further expand my forces thus year by completing a second French corps and a Prussian Infantry division.

For my 15mm Napoleon's,  a few more troops were added at the beginning of the year. However with Darren no longer attending the club I will need to add some more French infantry,  luckily Tom has also committed to adding some French to his collection.

After these 2 periods my painting has focused on 2 skirmish games, lion Rampant and Frost grave. Really enjoyed painting 28mm figures again. I also completed some of my old citadel elves and space orks for more variety.

2015 Painting totals
15mm Artillery - 9
15mm infantry - 408
15mm Mounted - 126
28mm infantry - 321
28mm Mounted - 40

On the club scene we have gone through a difficult patch. With a number of members leaving we struggled with the rent, however due to refurbishment we did a temporary move which now has become permanent. While we lack the ability to leave games laid out over night I have found I enjoy my gaming experience much more.

With visiting Mick and his purpose built games room I got stuck into a campaign for the WSS. 2 games fought so far and look forward to renewing hostilities this year. We also managed some multi player games with a re-fight of the battles of Ramillies and Froscwiller. It also  saw Chris added to this group for future games.

For 2016 I don't  have any firm goals yet. I would like to finish my WSS and FPW collections but after that a bit of a loose end. No doubt something shine will catch my eye.
