Scots / Irish warband for SAGA

Finally managed to finish my 3rd point unit for this force, a unit of warriors. The figures are a mix of Foundry and Old glory. For the fourth point I'm not sure between taking a 3rd unit of warrior, a mounted unit of hearthguard or using some Pict's fanatics for something a little different.

Scots / Irish warband for SAGA

I've had most of these figures painted for the last couple of years but never got around to basing them. This probably coincided with my loss of interest in WAB. After looking through my lead pile I reckon I can put together a 4 point SAGA warband. So far all I needed to paint up were the 2 armoured members of the Hearthguard. One of these is a GB plastic viking figure, but he will do for now. The warlord is the free GB Pictish chieftain I got when I order the Age of Arthur supplement. The Irish warrior has also made it into the warband.

The figures are a mix of Gripping Beast, Foundry and Old Glory from their Celtic and Pictish ranges in the main. The force currently stands at 2 points and I'll try and paint up the other 2 points of warriors. I've also managed to put together 4 mounted warriors which I can also add into the mix for a bit of variety. My only issue is my painting style has changed quite considerably since I painted the original figures and it may be difficult to ensure the new paint jobs match up.

More Franco Prussian stuff

First off just wanted to wish you all a Happy New year. I finally managed to get around to finishing off the last two infantry regiments for the Wurttemburg Division. This brings their strength up to 6 infantry regiments and 3 Jaeger regiments. I've also sent off an order to outpost for the remaining items still required, namely Officers, cavalry and artillery.

Finally pleased to get these finished. All that dark blue was getting to me, especially as I only recently finished painting 3 union corps for fire and fury in  you guessed it dark blue.

And now for something completely different. 3 Huscarls that are to be added to my SAGA warbands'. These guys are some old models I had from Black tree. I've also had a look through the lead pile and think I can put together a 4pt Scot/Irish warband. The figures will be a mix of Irish, Pict, Celt and Viking models. I'll stick up some pictures when I get some of them done.

SAGA warbands

I was due to play my first game of SAGA on Thursday but due to the wife being unwell I was unable to make it. Still I did manage to put together a couple of warbands for the game, mainly from my existing collection, though I did paint up the huscarls with the 2H axes. First up my Anglo Danes.

Next up my Viking warband. I've got too many hirdmen, mainly due to the majority of my collection being armoured.

more SAGA dice

Well one of the lads at the club has agreed to give the SAGA rules a run out on Thursday. We'll probably start with just a 4 point game as we'll probably spend plenty time thumbing through the rules. For a layout I'm going to use four of the boards from our viking layout that we used at the border reiver show 2 years ago http://scottyswargaming.blogspot.com/2010/09/border-reiver-show-pictures.html. Now this has prompted me to finish off making up some SAGA dice. I've already done some for the welsh (typically my opponent wants to use vikings) so I done 8 for the Anglo-Danes and 4 for the Normans.

Norman dice

A comparison shot between my home made dice and the official ones. Obviously the real things are superior, but you have to pay your money for them at £12.00 for 8. (Obviously I'll be using my viking dice and the others at the club can use the homemade dice until they get their own).

SAGA dice

Just a quick photo of my home made saga dice, these are for the Welsh. I downloaded the PDF from the SAGA forum and printed them out onto some sticky labels. Then came the laborious task of cutting them out and sticking them onto the blank dice. I'm quite happy with how they turned out. How will they stand up to constant use? I'm not sure. All in it took me about half an hour to complete. Quite a saving on £2.50 for 10 dice against the £12.00 for the originals. I've also got enough stickers to complete a Saxon, Norman and Viking set of dice.

SAGA

I've taken the plunge and decided to by the SAGA rules from Gripping Beast along with the Viking dice set. Looking forward to receiving these as I already have quite a few left over plastic vikings that I can use. Of the vikings I already have painted these are based for WAB and can easily stand in during practice games.
