Lovely weather for painting

I've been taking advantage of the lovely sunshine in the North East of England and getting lots of stuff completed. In this heat I can get the bases all completed with the quick drying times compared to the normal 24-48 hours it usually takes.

First up is some extra Native Americans, the 3 bases of cavalry and the casualty figures that I was waiting on the bases for. The riders are a mix of Tabletop, Friekorps and Peter Pig. The casualty figures are all from Peter Pig.

The other figures I completed for the Pony wars were two more companies of US infantry from the 9th regiment, 'G' and 'H' companies. These are all from Friekorps.

In a bit of a change I bought myself a single sprue of the Town Watch for Guards of Traitors Toll. They are lovely figures from Wargames Atlantic. Neil G and Thom from the Club are putting a display game for Border Reiver, so I thought I better learn the rules and what better way than using your own figures. I went for a simple sky blue/white for their tabards.

For the bases I used some air drying clay as I want to represent cobblestones that would match Thom's gaming mat. I'm quite happy with how the bases turned out for the first attempt Now back to getting some US cavalry finished over the weekend.

Gladiators

So I decided to paint up the free sprue from Wargames Illustrated of the Gladiators for the forthcoming Blood in the sands rules. These are nice Wargames Atlantic figures and painted up quite quickly. I also kitbashed a couple of extra Gladiators using some leftover bodies from a Gangs of Rome sprue and the spare arms and helmets.

Murmillo and Thraex Gladiators

Kitbashed Murmillo and Thraex Gladiators

These were nice and easy to paint up and brings me up to 22 Gladiators of various types.

In other news I discovered 4 units of Iberians I can paint up for Midgard, all 3d printed figures which will allow my Carthaginians to cover just about every option. I also came across a batch of some unpainted figures from a project I never got started. I spent the morning prepping them, hopefully a start of a new project.

Libyans and Elves

So in between work and a new puppy, I still managed to get a few things painted up. Firstly was another unit of Libyan javelin men. This brings me up to 4 units and are the last of my Carthaginian figures. These are a mix of Forged in battle and Essex miniatures.

The other figures completed were 4 more of the Oathmark Elven bowmen. These have been sat half done for a number of months so it didn't take much effort to finish. This finally roundouts my Elven force for Warhost.

So now I find myself at a bit of a loose end on what to paint. I do have a few 28mm Gladiators to finish, inspired by the free sprue from Wargames illustrated. I also have a few Spanish to paint up for the Punic Wars, enough for about 4 units, but that is it. So time to have a think on a new project to keep me busy for the rest of the year.

A few more figures painted up

Over the last few days I've been painting up various figures to keep things ticking along. The first batch of figures are for my Carthaginians, some spearmen and elephants. These are 3d printed figures provided by Mitch. These elephants are slightly smaller than the last batch and don't have the howdah. I've two more of these to paint up. I also spent some time prepping another batch of figures, mainly cavalry, more spearmen and some Oscans.

The other figures I completed were some Elves for Warhost. These are a mix of the plastic Oathmark figures and some of the metal Warhost Elves with two handed swords. I painted these in various colours, but trying to keep them in theme with the plastic figures.

I just have another 4 archers to finish, then I'll need to point up the force to see what else I need. I've still plenty of un-built figures to work on.

Earthbound Sentinel

Decided to add a large monster to my Dwarven Warhost, This earthbound sentinel is a 3d print provided by Mitch. I went for a sandstone colour scheme.

The Franco Prussian game for this week was postponed to next Thursday. Just has so much going on at work following some flood damage causing the office to be closed all week. A headache I could have done without.

Another mixed bag

Another mixed bag of figures completed. I even had the opportunity to do some painting with the new glasses. They will take a little getting used to. So first up is some cavalry for the Warhost Elven force. Like the rest of the figures they are all from Oathmark. Nice and easy to put together and paint.

Sticking with Warhost, I also took the opportunity to re-furbish some of my Orcs. A quick and easy way to get a force ready.

After these it was back to the Punic wars and a unit of Princeps for the 4th legion. These are lovely figures from Museum miniatures. I just need to get the Hastati done to complete the legion. Once again sticking with a mix of shield colours.

This Thursday should see the first battle of our Franco Prussian campaign. It will see Robbo with the French III Corps defending some heights against Mitch and the Prussian VI Corps.

This is an AI generated map and scenario that I've tweaked

Bits and pieces part 3

These are the last of the figures I managed to get painted up over the extended weekend. For the Punic Wars I added a unit of Velites for the Romans and some Spanish light cavalry. The Velites are from Museum miniatures and the Spanish are 3d prints provided by Mitch.

I also added another 10 Elves from Oathmark, 1 is a minor conversion to act as a low level leader for now, 8 are spearmen and 1 was a test figure for a unit of archers.

It's been a very productive few days with 80 figures cleared off the painting table. I'm now working on some Oathmark Elven cavalry before starting on the last of my Romans.

Bits and pieces part 2

So this bank holiday weekend has definitely seen an increase in output as a number of figures were cleared off the painting desk. First off there was a return to the Franco Prussian war and my second regiment of Landwehr for the upcoming campaign. As usual these are all from Outpost/Reiver castings.

I think these will be the last Prussians for a while. I may return in the future and add a French infantry division to 4th Corps.

With the ongoing games of Midgard at the club, it was a chance to add some more Italian infantry. This time figures designated as Samnites from Museum miniatures.

This brings me up to 3 units of Italian heavy infantry, I do have enough figures from Essex miniatures for a 4th unit. I can see myself adding more units in the future, namely some heavy cavalry, medium infantry and some skirmishers. Then I can field them as a stand alone force.

Now I also added a few figures to the Warhost collection. Namely three more Dwarf warriors and an Air elemental for the Elves. The Air elemental is a 3d print provided by Mitch. He is also busy printing me an earth construct for the Dwarves.

I've got a couple more things on the painting table that I should get completed before I go back to work on Tuesday. They are some Roman velites and Spanish light cavalry, then a couple of more Dwarves before starting on some Elves.
