Blood Bowl progress

As the clubs' Blood Bowl league continues (sitting top of the table for now) I decided to progress a couple of old teams I had sitting in the lead pile. Still need a bit of work to complete both teams, the requires figures are on the painting table.

First up is some Dwarves, these are all 1st and 2nd edition figures with the 3rd edition star player Grim Ironjaw.

Naugrim Ironfists

I have 2 more linemen (2nd edition), 2 troll slayers and 2 blitzers (3rd edition) currently being painted. The colour scheme is heather pink and blue. They were originally pink and grey as chosen by my wife many years ago. I much prefer the blue.

The next batch of figures are part of a second Skaven team. They are a mix of 2nd and 3rd edition figures. I also added my original Rat Ogre and a surplus blitzer to the team. I do have another lineman, blitzer and 3 Gutter Runners to complete.

Scuttleton Rats

I went for a dark green and yellow colour scheme for this team.

I now have a few WW1 Turks undercoated, hopefully get them painted before Christmas. THey are a mix of officers, riflemen and HMG teams. I also picked up a unit of muslim infantry for my WW1 Brits. Now 1 promise I made to myself was not to start any new projects this year. Well I managed to get to December and then purchased some 10mm Seven years War figures from Pendraken. I looking to field these as single base battalions of approx 10-12 infantry figures, the idea being fighting some of the larger battles of the war with limited table space.

A Dryad

Something a bit different. A 3D printed Dryad that I picked up. I've painted up in a suitably darkened wood colour as I intend to use it with my Dark Elf Blood Bowl team. Hence the blood red flowers.

I also completed another team. A bit late for Halloween. https://orcidasbb.blogspot.com/2022/11/ghoultown-deadskins.html?m=1

Now I need to get started on a few more Turks for my Back of Beyond gaming.

Blood Bowl Dark Elves

Next off the production line is a Dark Elf team for our upcoming Blood Bowl league. Went for a pretty simple colour scheme as I need them for a run out on Thursday.

I have to admit these were a bit of a pain to build, but at least they are done. More here https://orcidasbb.blogspot.com/

Blood Bowl Skaven

A slight divergence from my main projects after Andy brought along the latest edition of the rules. It reminded me how much I loved this game back in the days of 3rd edition. There is already talk of a league and people buying teams including myself. However I remembered I still had my old teams, one of which was Skaven, which Dave fancied trying before buying his own team.

So I dug them out to realise that only half of the team was painted. Worse still was the Blue/green armour colour was an old citadel paint long out of production. So new armour colour was needed on the existing players. I went with the German field grey.

So here is the team altogether, including an old second edition Rat Ogre and lineman.

Stormvermin

Rat ogre and thrower

So the Ratsburg Squealers are ready to take the field afain in their new team colours.

I've also added a link to a new Blog just for Blood Bowl. https://orcidasbb.blogspot.com/?m=1

Bloodbowl

In between painting my Napoleonic Austrians I have been dabbling again with Blood bowl. Some of the guys at the club have been playing old second edition and this got me thinking about finishing off some of my figures. First up is the Troll Ripper Bolgrot from the third Edition. Instead of the more popular green skin I decided to go for red. Very happy with the colour though I don't think the photos do him justice.

Next up I decided to purchase one of the resin sets from Impact miniatures - namely the female Norse team. Firstly because I like the figures, secondly they have a snow Troll and werewolf which can double up with my current Norse team. I decided to paint the werewolf and one of the Blitzers up in the colours of my current team Odin's Fury.

I have just finished off the Snow troll and have 3 more Valkyries part painted. I do recommend the Impact Miniatures range, some good deals and excellent looking figures. Well back to that last unit of Austrians

Border Reiver 2013

Today I attended the Border Reiver show held at the Gateshead International Stadium. It was my first attendance at the new venue and its much more spacious that the Arena, however it did get hot, though thankfully not as bad as it was last year according to others from the club.

The club put on a demonstration game for day 2 of the Battle of Gettysburg. We were using 15mm figures from my own collection as well as those from George and Neal. There was a mix of manufacturers on display from Old Glory, Warrior, Essex, Peter Pig, battle honours and Mini figs. Harry did all of the terrain boards while Neal and myself provided most of the fencing and buildings, We were going to use the Fire and Fury rules, but in the end decided to just move the figures to there position as they did historically to try and demonstrate how the battle unfolded on the day.

I did manage to take a number of photographs of the game. I was rather pleased with how it turned out and we did get quite a bit of passing traffic and people stopping for a chat which is always nice.

Johnson's Division crosses Rock Creek
Rebel III Corps finally in to action
With running the game I didn't get much of a chance to visit the other games. I was was impressed with the Falkirk Wargmaes display for  the AWI, sorry forgot the camera here. There were a couple of 40K games on display, full of some excellent figures including Titans. The game that really caugh my breath was Blood Bowl. The Custom built stadium was awesome (sorry guys I forgot which club you were) the chaps were very friendly talking about the game and the dstadium and all the fans. Also liked the custom built Treeman for the Halfling team.

Lastly I have to mention the Wings of War/Glory participation game that was run by Neal from the club. Seems a lot of fun was had and the table was constantly busy throughout the day. Neal reckoned that thery used 35 different planes on the day. He is already talking of improvements for the next show.

For purchases I was very restrained this year, keeping to what i had made a list for. I did pick up some figures from Andy, 15mm Austrian napoleonics, some Austrian Landwher from Colonel Bill as well as assorted MDF bases and paints. There was one bargain on the Bring and buy which tempted me. A full brigade of napoleonic French nicely painted for £50.00, when I returned with the money they had already gone.

Was the show worth it, yes definatly and I will try and make it next year.

Crimean War project part 2

I have manged to get a second infantry regiment done. This time the 9 stands of the Minsk regiment. As usual the figures are all by Pendraken and the bases from Warbase. Sorry the pictures are not the best as I need new batteries for the camera and just used my mobile.

I've now got the next 2 regiments prepared ans ready for undercoating. These 2 are only 6 stands each so I may paint them simultaneously. As Pendraken do not produce any Generals in their range I have picked up some 10mm Russian Napoleonic generals from Old Glory. These are very nice figures and are compatible with the Pendraken range.

On a gaming front I managed to get in a game of Bloodbowl on Thursday night against my nephew. Now I haven't played these in years but we had fun. To keep things simple we both used the basic human teams, with my Norse used as a proxy. I eventually ran out the winner 2-1, but we both put it down to a training game.

Brionne Cavaliers try to protect the ball carrier
Odins Fury smash their way through
Thrower lines up a pass to the first score
Carnage on the sidelines
Both sides struggled in the first hals to inflict any casualties. That changed in the second half when I managed to remove 4 of the Brionne Cavaliers players from the game.

Scented Slayers

Just a couple of pictures of a bloodbowl team I've managed to put together from some spare figures I had lying around. I've named the team "Scented Slayers". I'm not sure when I will be able to game with these.

Wolfie

Picked this figure up from West Wind's Weird World War range. I've painted him up to match the rest of my Norse Bloodbowl team that I painted many years ago.

Ho Ho Ho and a bottle of rum and an Ogre

A couple of photos of a female pirate I've finished off for my daughter. She did the base colours, all I did was just clear up some of the overlaps and do the highlights. More than happy with how it turned out and so is she. The figure is from Foundry's Pirate range that I picked up at the York show earlier in the year.

Next up is an Ogre from Games Workshop. I've painted this up in the colour scheme of my Blood Bowl human team, The Brickyard Brawlers. All of the other Ogres in my collection have been painted to match in with my Orc and Chaos teams. Simple paint job that I'm more than happy with.
