RCW tank and a new project

First up as I am coming down with a bit of a cold I decided to forgo the trip to York show, gutted as it is the first major show of the year. So to try and keep my morale up I decided to get the paint brushes out and get some stuff completed.

So as my 'Whites' are significantly outnumbered I decided to add a little fire power in the shape of a tank. It is a 3d resin printed model I picked up on Ebay for under £9. Bit of a bargain and makes up for the fact I'm not too keen on the guns. But as it will only get used in larger games it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I may go back and add a little more weathering around the tracks, but that is the job for another day. I also need to add some decals once I source some for the Russian Civil War.

So now on to my new project for this year. The Trojan War in 15mm, why 15mm? well Museum Miniatures produce an excellent range of figures, they had a 25% off sale. Also as I normally game on a 6x4 table, battles look so much better in the smaller scale. I have also gone for multi-bases, easier to move and I have my eye on the Midgard rules that will hopefully be published this year. They are based around heroes and retinues and would seem to fit with my idea of the Trojan war as portrayed in the Iliad.

So far I have managed to get 3 units completed. 2 of medium infantry and 1 of Heavy infantry. I will need to add another heavy infantry unit, some archers and Hektor to lead them.

I've now got the first of two chariots on the painting table, the last unit of heavy infantry and the unit of archers. I may move to a Mycenean unit next or try and complete the rest of the Trojans over the coming weeks.

WSS game 2

So on club night we decided to give the Tricorns another run out. Once again the French and Russians would clash. I even had two extra players keen to learn the rules.

The game began with Thom and Mitch advancing with their numerically superior Russians. Meanwhile John and myself advanced to meet them. John's unusual deployment of cavalry in the center and his infantry on the left wing would prove costly.

Thankfully out on our right flank my cavalry began to slowly wear down the inferior but numerous Russian horse. In the center though things did not go so well with the infantry exchanges. Meanwhile, John realised his deployment error and began moving his horse to the left flank. This however left a gap in the center for the Russian infantry to exploit.

Over on the left Thoms' infantry began their assault on a village. His horse though ran into Bavarian cuirassiers and took a rather heavy beating. However he did pin a full brigade of badly needed french infantry who were now needed in the center.

As the night drew to a close I had managed to re-form my french infantry in the centre. But my 2 worn brigades were facing 3 larger Russian brigades, which contained the best of the Russian infantry. Next week's outcome hangs on how quickly can John redeploy his infantry into the centre. We have the better of the Russian horse but risk our army being split in two.

RCW - Whites IV

As I await my next delivery of figures I though I would do a test run on the last 2 unpainted figures I had. They have been done to represent the Markov officer battalion. Pretty happy with how the black uniforms turned out.

I think I'll do two companies of these and probably add a HMG team and a small detachment of the Markov cavalry in their Kuban cossack uniform.

RCW - Whites III

This is the last of my 'White' forces. I am hopeful to pick up a few more at the York show next weekend. I already have a few ideas of how I want to expand the force. Ideally I want 2 more infantry companies, probably one of the volunteer units to add a bit of colour. There is also the option of one of the officer units - Markov in their black uniforms that seem to be a must for most white forces.

Anyway here are the additions I've completed. First up is the HMG team from Copplestone castings. I kept these in the colours of the Izhevsk regiment.

Next up is an artillery piece to add a bit more firepower. This model is also from Copplestone castings. It was part of the bundle I picked up from Colonel Bills. The uniforms are just pretty generic for the gunners. I'm also not sure why I painted the gun carriage dark brown. I had been looking at various pictures which showed the wheel spokes as a light brown, different to the rest of the carriage. Still pretty happy with it and looks different enough from the gun in my 'Reds' collection.

So here is the collection so far. As can be seen it is seriously short of manpower compared to my Bolsheviks. Looks about outnumbered 5 to 1. Just the two companies with support weapons.

Well as I ponder new acquisitions I can make a start on the new project for this year.

Praetors vs Greywolves - round 2

It's been a few months since we had a run out with the Mech.s As the club was moving rooms it seemed a perfect opportunity to play a game as we only needed a few figures. So Dave set up a quick game with my Praetors looking to ambush a Greywolves patrol.

As I got the first turn I moved my APCs and tanks into the cover of the buildings, meanwhile my light mech swung off to the right. The Greywolves sent 2 of their mechs to intercept. Unfortunately Dave failed a move roll, isolating one of his mechs.

This allowed my light mech to rapidly close in, firing on the move. Combined with support from my heavier mechs, one of the Greywolf mechs went up in flames. They responded by demolishing one of the buildings, taking out one of my infantry teams.

With one mech down, my heavies quickly closed on the enemy. The dice gods were definitely in my favour as more heavy fire took out a second mech. One of the Greywolves did manage to get its guns on my light mech, inflicting some damage and blinding the pilot for a turn. Unfortunately though the game was quickly up, in one turn my remaining mechs then inflicted crippling damage on the remaining two mechs and it was game over. All dopne in an hour

Well next week it willbe back to tricorns.

RCW - Whites II

I finally got around to basing the second company of the Izhevsk rifle battalion. Just like the 1st company the troopers are all from Minifigs and the officer is from Copplestone castings. I also completed another officer in a more flamboyant white uniform. Just like the idea of him standing out from the rest.

I do have 2 spare figures remaining, the idea being I will use these for one of the more colourful officer units. I think I might try a couple of packs from the Empress range to bring them up to 10 figures. Hopefully they bring the range to the York show. In the meantime I have the HMG and artillery undercoated and hope to make a start on them in the coming days.
