On the Sunday a large battle was then fought with Romans and Germans on both side (we didn't count the points just the units (85 units + skirmishers)approx 1500 figures) This ended in a hard fought draw.

Vicus Varus
This past weekend I had the good fortune to run a Fall of the West scenario. It was based on a Roman Column advancing onto the town of Vicus Varus through a wooded sloped valley to relieve a siege from the Goths. Unknown to the Romans the slopes of the valley were filled with approaching Franks and Alemmani. The game played well and hung in the balance with neither side being able to gain an upper hand. Eventually it was a hard fought victory for the Germanic alliance as the Romans were turned back. See the photos below for a flavour of the game.

re basing pt3
Well re basing continues, after 6 legions and 2 ballistae, I've started on some of the mounted troops. The Cataphracti are completed and 2 units of heavy Cav and 1 Light Cav are currently in the process of finishing off the bases. As I need some more cavalry bases I'll switch back to the infantry, with 3 legions and 3 small units of archers and 1 javelin unit to start. After that I'll make a start on some of the barbarian auxiliaries, probably limit it to a couple of foot units and 1 cavalry.

Re basing pt2
Well the rebasing has ground to a halt as awaitng some more of the renedra bases in the post. So far I have done 4 legions, with another 2 legions on new bases and gooing hrough the flocking process. Must admit impressed with the renedra bases much prefer them to the GW ones that I have used in the past. Included in the order is also some bases for starting on the cavlry, still haven't decided on how to base the 2 bolt throwers and stone thrower.

Re-basing
Is this the curse for all wargamers. Always promised myself I would never do it, but.....As I've got a large Fall of the West WAB game coming up in April I made the brave decision to re base the army as the current bases looked a little shabby and no longer to my taste.
To do
9 legions @ 24 figures each
3 units archers @ 10 figures each
2 units light horse @ 7 figures each
3 units Cavalry @ 10 figures each
1 unit Cataphract @ 12 figures
2 bolt throwers and 1 stone thrower
that's approx 280 figures....gulp and this does not include the 55 Huns, 120 Germanic foot and 30 Germanic horse....What have I started

Newlink
Just added a new link to the South East Northumberland Wargames Club, which I have just set up. I'll be using it to post updates from club games and use this blog to concentrate on my own interests
