A Dryad

Something a bit different. A 3D printed Dryad that I picked up. I've painted up in a suitably darkened wood colour as I intend to use it with my Dark Elf Blood Bowl team. Hence the blood red flowers.

I also completed another team. A bit late for Halloween. https://orcidasbb.blogspot.com/2022/11/ghoultown-deadskins.html?m=1

Now I need to get started on a few more Turks for my Back of Beyond gaming.

Praetors vs Greywolves

Well the 6mm sci fi collection got a run out this week as we tried the rules from the Songs of Blades stable. Mitch who ran the game kept it simple. Three Mechs, 3 tanks and 3 APCs with infantry per side. The Greywolves were defending a re-purposed runway, while the Praetors were sent to investigate.

The game began with the Praetor Mechs and APCs advancing towards the central built uo area, while the infantry disembarked to occupy the buildings. The tanks moved out west to cover the flank.

Almost immediately the indantry came under attack with one of the buildings being destroyed. A second Greywolf Mech opened up on my light mech causing a little damage.

A third mech fired upon an oil refinery, causing an explosion that engulfed my APCs, destroying one.

My light mech then closed quickly on its opponent, though damage seemed negligible. Even support from my heavy mech did little damage. My light mech then came under fire from 2 mechs and the tanks. Destabilized and knocked over.

Eventually my Heavy mech got into range, with devastating fire, destroying an enemy mech and knocking out a tank. My own tanks then got into range and with combined fire, knocked out a second mech.

Meanwhile the Greywolf heavy mech then opened up on my heavy mech, knocking it out, before itself was dealt catastrophic damage. The Greywolf infantry did have some success in finishing off the Praetor infantry.

A good fun game that no doubt will get another run out in the future.

Game at last

Nearly 3 weeks after I set the table up at the club, we eventually got the game played, even though much changed. With players missing over 3 weeks for birthdays, house moves, holidays etc. Myself and Sean decided to just get the game done. The scenario changed to a straight up encounter between the Bolsheviks and the Germano-Turk alliance. The Brits were sadly returned to their box. We kept it simple as Sean hadn't played the rules before. Both sides were looking to secure the village for its supplies.

Germano-Turks advance

Bolsheviks take the field

Turks secure the camp

Bolsheviks reach the village

Charge!!

Auxiliaries creep forward

Bolsheviks storm the village

I see Turks across the field

Viscious melee with the Germans coming out on top

Siberians finally getting a move on

The end of battle view

A good fun game. The loss of the 2 German HMG teams severly hampered the defence of the village. Despite inflicting horrific on the advancing Bolsheviks, a steady stream of casualties on the defenders eventually forced a withdrawal of the Germano-Turks.

SCW Carlists

It seems like an age since I painted anything. I put that down to these figures. 4 Carlists for the Spanish Civil War.  They are from Templar miniatures and they were not a joy to paint. I have other of their figures and they were fine, admittedly painted many years ago. I think they just don't compare to more modern figures from companies like Empress.

Still they are done and they provide my Carlists with an LMG team which is sadly missing from the Empress range.

I now need to convince the other half to allow me to move my painting station into the conservatory. Its too dark, cold and damp at this time of year to paint in the shed.

Game Preparation

Must admit I've not really had time for the blog lately. I had a few more pressing issues to attend to such as re-applying for the job I've done for the last 2 years to support my Employer during Covid. So application sorted and a few others as Itry to cover as many bases as possible.

So back to wargaming. I've decided to run a Back of Beyond game for the club on Thursday, so I went down to the club yesterday to get the table and forces sorted out. I have an idea for a scenario to hopefully keep 3 players entertained. A couple of views of the village they will be fighting over.

The game should see 3 forces involved. We have the British, a small well trained force. The Bolsheviks where quantity is a quality of its own. Then a mixed force of Germans, Turks and local central Asian tribesmen (using Afghans for these). I think I'll keep the mounted troops in the box for now.

Thw Bolsheviks

Germans, Turks and Tribesmen

The British

I now just need to sort out the force ratings and some orders for the 3 commanders. Got a few days at least to sort that out. In the meantime I did manage to get 3 games of Blood Bowl in for the club lead. 3 wins so far and sitting on top of the table for now.

WW1 Turks - progress

As a lot of my efforts lately have ben around preparing for the clubs Blood Bowl league, see here orcidas Blood Bowl I feel I have been neglecting the historical side of the hobby. So in the meantime I have been trying to get another batch of Turks completed. So here they are, 20 more infantry from Copplestone Castings. I still need to get the bases completed, which should be done over the next couple of days.

Next month I will try to pick up some more, though I may try and get a few from Gripping Beast to add a little variety in pose and headgear. They also have artillery and Arabs in Ottoman service, which is always handy.

I now find myself in the unusual position of having nothing to paint for all of my current projects. I may have to dip into the 15mm WSS and FPW to see if I have anything I can paint up.

Update - managed to complete the bases today, bringing me up to 3 full squads to support the Asia Korps.

German Asia Korps HMG Teams

A couple of small additions to my German Asia Korps. These are 2 HMG teams I picked up from HLBSC. Both teams are in their Colonial uniforms which helps with the slightly irregular look that I am going for,

I think I may pick up a few extra infantry for a second squad. I also have acouple of additional squads of Turkish infantry on order from Northstar to round out this mixed force.
