Some Afghans

Progress continues to be slow. Not helped by picking up a cold bug. It has taken me over a week to get these 8 figures done.

They are 8 Afghan irregulars from Artizan miniatures armed with rifles. The idea being to mix them in among my existing musket and jezzail armed figures. That way I can use them for Back of Beyond gaming. Ive now got another 12 plastic figures from Perry's to start.

A Hydra

In an attempt to re-kindle my painting mojo, I decided to complete a Reaper Bones Hydra that has sat nearing completion on the painting table for a number of months. 

It's not my best work, but it felt good to just get something done, so much so that I started on some Afghans. 

Not keen on the blue, think this is why it has been half finished for so long. Wish I had gone for a dark green. Well it will probably get it's first game in on Thursday night.

Lost mojo

Well after some high painting outputs at the start of the year, I haven't picked up a paintbrush in over 2 weeks. I just have no fancy for it. Got plenty of figures in to paint, even prepped, just don't fancy. Going to try a do a little work this afternoon on a Hydra for Dragon Rampant game on Thursday.

But wargaming related, I did get a colonial game in the other week, forgot to write it up and a bit sketchy on the details. All I remember is the Beja won and the Brits best form close order or can be quickly swept away.

Wish me luck on picking up a paint brush.

Bolshevik cavalry

Thought it was time to add a unit of cavalry to the force. These are Copplestone castings that I picked up from Colonel Bills. I went for a pretty uniform approach for this batch. Future batches will have slight variations. 

I can see me adding atleast another 2 units to this regiment, including some command and a few with great coats.

This brings me nicely to the end of stage 1, i.e. I have enough for a game. Stage 2 will see the addition if more infantry and cavalry. There will also be some vehicles and artillery. I do have an order in for some sailors and artillery. So here is the force so far.

This gives me 6 units of infantry, a unit of cavalry and a maxim MG team. Probably not strong enough to take on my British yet.

Terrain and more Bolsheviks

Last post for the month. Really enjoyed my time off work as it has allowed me to get plenty of painting done. So for a bit of a change I completed some more scenery for the battlefields. First up was 2 more small crop fields and then 2 extra areas of rough ground.

Both are simple affairs. The fields are just areas of artificial grass added to some MDF bases. The rough ground is a mix of stones from the garden and offcuts of coir mat.

After these were done I went to work completeing the last of my Bolshevik infantry. Another 20 figures added.

Once again I went fot a mix of colours on the greatcoats, helps with the irregular look I'm after. I now have to wait for an order with Northstar for some sailors and a field gun. In the meantime I have some cavalry and Afghans to do.

More British cavalry

Just when I thought the British were done I unearthed a few more figures. First up were 8 more cavalry from Renegade miniatures. Unfortunately I had started many years ago as a possible conversion with head swaps. So 4 new heads later were added. A quick repaint and they are done.

The observant will notice only 7 figures. The horses from Renegade have rather week joints around the hooves and 1 figure snapped. So that one is busy being pinned and will be added later.

I also located 2 more infantry, 1 of which has a lewis gun for a bit more fire power. I have since found another 8, but not sure when or if i'll get around to them.

So here is the whole force so far. Probably about 90% done as I would like to add a couple of armoured cars and vehicles.

Now I better get back to the Russians.

RCW - More Bolsheviks

Another quick update on my progress. A few more command figures to lead my units.

Next up was 3 more Lewis guns, can never have enough machine guns I feel.

Lastly was another unit of infantry. They are designated as Elite Bolshevik infantry. Not sure if I will use them as such, probably just mix in with the others.

So that's another 16 figures added to the collection. I've got another 20 infantry and cavalry on the painting table after I finish a small number of British cavalry.
